Our Story of We

This site consists of collated research related to the Hendriksz and Gericke families, many of whom emigrated from Europe to South Africa in the 19th century. It is very much a work in progress. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any corrections, additions or questions.

The inside cover of my maternal father's Bible intrigued me so much that I took a photo of it when my aunt shared it with me in 2015 (see below). It is a calculation of his heritage by nationality: Irish, Scottish, German, English, French and Dutch.

Myriad circumstances brought each of these groups to the country that eventually became the Republic of South Africa. Each country's political and economic climate created the impetus for these ancestors to take long and often dangerous voyages to the Southern tip of Africa.
